Because it's not, "Just a Game"...
Hello. Ed here.... growing up in Upstate NY, I’ve remember I always loved Sports. I also remember I could always 'draw". In fact, I think I could draw before I could write my name.
Artistically. . . my product is "emotion", not paint on paper.
My Art is for the person who is emotional about their team. It's part of their DNA, and the desire to be part of their team is a big part of who they are. If you’re like me, certain sporting events have become indelible memories that instantly transport me back to a time and place...
-I remember watching the METS win the 1969 World Series in Mark Thompson's basement... the beginning of a love affair with the “Amazin’s” that continues to this day. I was 8 years old.
-I remember eating Chocolate Pie, watching O.J. Simpson rush for 273 yards against Detroit from my Aunt & Uncle's house in Upstate N.Y. on Thanksgiving Day, 1976. (O.J., who could have known?) I was 15.
-I remember drinking Yukon Jack with roommates in Tower 2 at SUNY Buffalo, watching the USA's “Miracle on Ice”. I was 20.
-I remember Bill Buckner, Ray Knight and Mookie Wilson's "little roller up along first..." Along with the joy and disbelief of that magical Game 6. I was 25.
-I remember 9-11… the loss, anger and confusion. But I also remember the Diamondbacks and Yankees… and how it helped us start to heal... to feel like it just might be OK again. I could go on and on…
- The love of Sport is a reflection of who we are and where we came from. That’s why I draw Sports… to capture and to be able to re-visit the emotion of these moments and heroes forever.
That melancholy, that joy, that pride… the emotion that transports you back to that moment… that’s what I'm going for.
Hopefully... when you look at my Art, you get it too... and it helps you do the same. Because for me, it will NEVER be... "just a game".
